Bicyclist injured in car accident

COLUMBIA — A bicyclist was in fair condition on Thursday evening after he was hit by a car at the intersection of Vandiver Drive and Rangeline Street, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

The accident occurred as motorist James E. Heath, 57, of Fayette was driving north on Rangeline and began to turn west onto Vandiver. The bicyclist, Donald Mount, 20, of Columbia was riding east on Vandiver against traffic and drove off the sidewalk and into oncoming traffic, according to the release.

Mount was taken to University Hospital with cuts and stayed at the hospital for observation.
