Blunt, Nixon meet to discuss governor transition

JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Matt Blunt spent 90 minutes meeting with his successor to discuss public policy issues that are likely to face Jay Nixon's administration.

Nixon, the state's Democratic attorney general, easily won the Nov. 4 gubernatorial election over Republican Congressman Kenny Hulshof. Blunt announced in January that he would not seek re-election.

Blunt said he and Nixon discussed requested state audits of local governments, pending transportation projects and security and public safety issues.

The two were political rivals leading up to Election Day. Nixon declared his intent to run for governor shortly after Blunt took office.
